Ways for SME’s to create their own IP

For so long I have been focussed on creating my own IP. Why? Because ultimately it is this that makes each of us different, that give us our competitive advantage or an edge.

This process of developing your identity, your point of difference has always been long and often costly, especially if it means developing software applications that will change the way things are done out there, change the game.

At APR I’ve been driving to this end for over ten long years, pushing through barriers, jumping over hurdles and making significant investments in ‘the future’ the way we see it. We have done this by working in a partnered way with our customers in the automotive industry and with the total support of everyone in the business and family.

Well, yes it’s tough, yes it requires patience and a good dose of believing in yourself and backing yourself in and no matter how close you are to the finish line, sometimes the race just seems to be extended just as you’re about to cross the line and take a five minute break.

The key I’ve found is a strong vision, sound foundations, a need in the market and ‘great people’ around you that can support and drive you. I’ve been lucky enough to have a great, supportive family who has backed the vision all the way. Your family and support at home is one of the most significant forces especially when things are tough out there.

So many small businesses have great ideas, have thought of ways to systemise their business using cutting edge technology that would make them great. But, how do we build that niche estimating system, how do we interface it with a scheduling system, how can we have this hooked into a capacity management tool… There is nothing on the shelf that can do this. Where do I start, what is possible, how do I articulate what I need to a an IT person and will I ever be able to afford it?

These were all the questions I had in my head, so don’t think I have not been there! We had to find a way and we did. In fact the way was found by one of the great people that works with me who said ‘Chris, we need to do this differently’, and we have. By the way sometimes it is about backing your people as much as them backing you.

Have a look at the video we shot for the website, http://knowledgeworkers.aprgo.com.au/news/221 In February we roll out another big project with a customer that has over 20 facilities in Australia. If you are interested in pushing forward with your systems, your IP but are too scared of how, who, and the costs, drop me an email and I will be happy to talk to you about how we’ve done it chrisdaglis@aprgo.com.au.

Reused parts are playing a bigger role in the repair process than ever before

Not only are reused parts great Environmentally, they add significant value, especially in light of the growing issues with manufacturer new parts availability, or lack thereof.

All stakeholders in the repair process benefit through the use of genuine reused parts. Have we considered this?

If you think about this you will quickly realize just how big a role this product plays. We should not take the auto recycling industry and their products for granted.

Enjoy this video, it tells the story http://t.co/jhWBi5dY

Our very own Amit Gupta was recently diagnosed with Leukemia. He’ll be one step closer to curing it if he can find a bone marrow match of South Asian descent.
Here’s the best thing you can do to help right now:
If you’re South Asian, get a free test by mail. You rub your cheeks with a cotton swab and mail it back. It’s easy.
If you’re in NYC, you can go to this event his friends are putting on.
If you know any South Asians (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, or Sri Lanka), please point ‘em to the links above. Thank you.

APR Delivers Strategic Benefit

Woods Accident Repair Centres enjoy a comprehensive strategic relationship with APR, predicated on trust and joint measured risk for mutual benefit. APR has worked closely with us to determine methodologies which deliver positive outcomes for our providers without prejudicing ours or their position.

Like all repairers, we serve many work providers with the direct support of a range of suppliers. APR stands apart in its willingness and ability to work collaboratively with all our other service providers to deliver a holistic solution. They understand and cater for the individual needs of our business and provide a logistics overlay not burdened by cost.

Key to this success is the use of technology to measure where we are, assist in analysing options, determine a path forward, implementation, review and continuous improvement.

We are happy to strongly recommend APR to insurers, repairers and suppliers as they will apply their significant knowledge and IP to execute a strategy that will deliver mutual benefit.
